What is Medicaid, and How Do I Get Medicaid Coverage?

Dear PAL, The other day, I saw a commercial about Medicaid, but I’m confused. I’m already enrolled in Medicare. What does Medicaid cover for me? How do I get it? Thank you, Elise

Dear Elise,

With all the different health plans and benefits offered, it can be difficult to know which one is right for you. Medicare isn’t the only health insurance you can receive from the federal government. Depending on your income or disability status, you may qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid.

Medicaid is coverage that is provided by your state Medicaid program. Here are a few services that Medicaid may help pay for:

  • Inpatient and outpatient hospital care
  • Nursing home care
  • Home health care
  • Lab and X-ray diagnostic services

Medicaid does not cover all health care expenses like dental services, vision services or hearing aids. These services are considered out-of-pocket expenses if you have Medicaid.

If you’re eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid, you can receive additional benefits with Shared Health Dual Plus (HMO D-SNP)SM offered by Shared Health Mississippi. Visit sharedhealthms.com today to learn more about benefits and enrolling.

Sincerely,
